The youth, known as "cOmrade" on the internet, pleaded guilty to intercepting 3,300 email messages at one of the Defense Department's most sensitive operations and stealing data from 13 NASA computers, including some devoted to the new International space stations. James gained notoriety when he became the first juvenile to be sent to prison for hacking. He was sentenced at 16 years old. He installed a backdoor into a Defense Threat Reduction Agency server. The DTRA is an agency of the Department of Defense charged with reducing the threat to the U.S. and its allies from nuclear, biological, chemical, conventional and special weapons. The backdoor he created enabled him to view sensitive e-mails and capture employee usernames and passwords.James also cracked into NASA computers, stealing software worth approximately $1.7 million. According to the Department of Justice, “The software supported the international space station’s physical environment, including control of the temperature and humidity within the living space.” NASA was forced to shut down its computer systems, ultimately racking up a $41,000 cost.
Adrian Lamo
Dubbed the “homeless hacker,” he used Internet connections at Kinko’s, coffee shops and libraries to do his intrusions. In a profile article, “He Hacks by Day, Squats by Night,” Lamo reflects, “I have a laptop in Pittsburgh, a change of clothes in D.C. It kind of redefines the term multi-jurisdictional.”Dubbed the “homeless hacker,” he used Internet connections at Kinko’s, coffee shops and libraries to do his intrusions. For his intrusion at The New york Times, Lamo was ordered to pay approximately $65,000 in restitution. He was also sentenced to six months of home confinement and two years of probation, which expired January 16, 2007. Lamo is currently working as an award-winning journalist and public speaker.
Kevin Mitnick
The Department of Justice describes him as “the most wanted computer criminal in United States history.” His exploits were detailed in two movies: Freedom Downtime and Takedown. He started out exploiting the los angles bus punch card system to get free rides. Then, like Apple co-founder Steve Wozniak, dabbled in phone phreaking. Although there were numerous offenses, Mitnick was ultimately convicted for breaking into the Digital equipment Corporation’s computer network and stealing software.Today, Mitnick has been able to move past his role as a black hat hacker and become a productive member of society. He served five years, about 8 months of it in solitary confinement, and is now a computer security consultant, author and speaker.
Kevin Poulsen
Also known as Dark Dante, Poulsen gained recognition for his hack of LA radio’s KIIS-FM phone lines, (taing over all of the station’s phone lines) which earned him a brand new porsche, among other items. Law enforcement dubbed him “the Hannibal Lecter of computer crime.”Authorities began to pursue Poulsen after he hacked into a federal investigation database. During this pursuit, he further drew the ire of the FBI by hacking into federal computers for wiretap information.His hacking specialty, however, revolved around telephones. Poulsen’s most famous hack, In a related feat, Poulsen also “reactivated old Yellow Page escort telephone numbers for an acquaintance who then ran a virtual escort agency.” Later, when his photo came up on the show Unsolved Mysteries, 1-800 phone lines for the program crashed. Ultimately, Poulsen was captured in a supermarket and served a sentence of five years.Since serving time, Poulsen has worked as a journalist. He is now a senior editor for Wired news. His most prominent article details his work on identifying 744 Abuse Word offenders with MySpace profiles.
Robert Tappan Morris
Morris, son of former National Security Agency scientist Robert Morris, is known as the creator of the Morris Worm, the first computer worm to be unleashed on the Internet. As a result of this crime, he was the first person prosecuted under the 1986 Computer Fraud and Abuse Act.
Morris wrote the code for the worm while he was a student at Cornell. He asserts that he intended to use it to see how large the Internet was. The worm, however, replicated itself excessively, slowing computers down so that they were no longer usable. It is not possible to know exactly how many computers were affected, but experts estimate an impact of 6,000 machines. He was sentenced to three years’ probation, 400 hours of community service and a fined $10,500.Morris is currently working as a tenured professor at the MIT computer science and Artificial Intelligence laboratory. He principally researches computer network architecture including distributed hash tables such as Chord and wireless mesh networks such as Roofnet.

Levin accessed the accounts of several large corporate customers of Citibank via their dial-up wire transfer service (Financial Institutions Citibank Cash Manager) and transferred funds to accounts set up by accomplices in finland the United States, the Netherlands, Germany and Israel.In 2005 an alleged member of the former St. Petersburg hacker group, claiming to be one of the original Citibank penetrators, published under the name ArkanoiD a memorandum on popular Provider.net.ru website dedicated to telecom market.According to him, Levin was not actually a scientist (mathematician, biologist or the like) but a kind of ordinary system administrator who managed to get hands on the ready data about how to penetrate in Citibank machines and then exploit them.ArkanoiD emphasized all the communications were carried over X.25 network and the Internet was not involved. ArkanoiD’s group in 1994 found out Citibank systems were unprotected and it spent several weeks examining the structure of the bank’s USA-based networks remotely. Members of the group played around with systems’ tools (e.g. were installing and running games) and were unnoticed by the bank’s staff. Penetrators did not plan to conduct a robbery for their personal safety and stopped their activities at some time. Someone of them later handed over the crucial access data to Levin (reportedly for the stated $100).

Secara bahasa (lughatan): Akhlaq adalah jamak dari Al khuluq, yang berarti:
وهو الدِّين والطبْع والسجية
“Yaitu ad din (agama), tabiat, dan perangai.” (Ibnu Manzhur al Mishri, Lisanul ‘Arab, Juz. 10, Hal. 85. Al Maktabah Asy Syamilah)
وقالَ ابنُ الأعْرابِيِّ : الخُلُقُ : المُرُوءةُ
“Berkata Ibnul Arabi: Al Khuluq artinya muru’ah (kepribadian).”(Muhammad bin Muhammad bin Abdurrazaq al Hasani, Tajjul ‘Arusy, Hal. 6292. Al Maktabah Ays Syamilah)
Sedangkan, secara istilah (ishtilahan), adalah:
وحقيقتهأَنه لِصورة الإِنسان الباطنة وهي نفْسه وأَوصافها ومعانيها المختصةُ بِهابمنزلة الخَلْق لصورته الظاهرة وأَوصافها ومعانيها ولهما أَوصاف حسَنةوقبيحة والثوابُ والعقاب يتعلّقان بأَوصاف الصورة الباطنة أَكثر ممايتعلقان بأَوصاف الصورة الظاهرة
“Hakikatnya (akhlak) adalah gambaran batin manusia, yakni jiwanya, sifat-sifatnya, dan makna-maknanya yang spesifik, yang dengannya terlihat kedudukan makhluk, lantaran gambarannya secara zahir, baik sifat-sifatnya dan makna-maknanya, dan keduanya memeliki sifat yang baik atau buruk, mendapat pahala dan sanksi, yang kaitan keduanya dengan sifat-sifat yang tergambar secara batin adalah lebih banyak, dibanding apa-apa yang yang terkait dengan gambaran zahirnya.” (Ibid, lihat juga Tajjul ‘Arusy, Hal. 6292. Al Maktabah Asy Syamilah)
Sementara itu, Hujjatul Islam Imam al Ghazali, mendefinisikan akhlak yang baik sebagai berikut:
وإنما الأخلاق الجميلة يراد بها العلم والعقل والعفة والشجاعة والتقوى والكرم وسائر خلال الخير، وشيءمن هذه الصفات لا يدرك بالحواس الخمس بل يدرك بنور البصيرة الباطنة
“Sesungguhnya, yang dimaksudkan dengan akhlak yang indah adalah ilmu, akal, ‘iffah (rasa malu berbuat dosa), keberanian, taqwa, kemuliaan, dan semua perkara yang baik, dan semua sifat-sifat ini tidak hanya ditampilkan oleh panca indera yang lima, tetapi juga oleh cahaya mata hati dan batin.”(Ihya ‘Ulumuddin, Juz. 3, Hal. 393. Al Maktabah Asy Syamilah)
Sedangkan Ibnu Maskawaih berkata tentang akhlak:
الخلق حال للنفس داعية لها إلى أفعالها من غير فكر ولا روية ولا روية
“Akhlak adalah kondisi bagi jiwa yang mengajak segala perbuatan kepadanya dengan tanpa dipikirkan, dan tanpa ditimbang-timbang.” (Ibnu Maskawaih, Tahdzibul Akhlaq, hal. 10. Al Maktabah Asy Syamilah)
Demikian makna akhlak yang diterangkan para ulama dan ahli bahasa. Semua pembicaraan tentang akhlak bermuara pada kondisi jiwa manusia yang ditampakkan oleh perbuatan mereka, yang didasarkan oleh pemahaman agama, Al Quran, dan ketaqwaan.
II. KATA AKHLAK DALAM AL QURAN
Allah Ta’ala berfirman:
وَإِنَّكَ لَعَلى خُلُقٍ عَظِيمٍ
Dan seseungguhnya engkau (Muhammad), benar-benar berbudi pekerti agung.” (QS. Al Qolam (68): 4)
BerkataImam Abu Ja’far bin Jarir Ath ThabariRahimahullah:
وإنك يا محمد لعلى أدب عظيم، وذلك أدب القرآن الذي أدّبه الله به، وهو الإسلام وشرائعه.
“Sesungguhnya engkau, wahai Muhammad, benar-benar di atas adab (etika) yang mulia, itulah adab Al Quran yang dengannya Allah telah mendidiknya, yakni (adab) Islam dan syariat-syariatnya.” (Jami’ul Bayan fi Ta’wilil Qur’an, Juz. 23, Hal. 528. Al Maktabah Asy Syamilah).
Imam Ibnu Jarir ini merupakan rangkuman dari berbagai tafsir tentang makna ‘Khuluqun ‘Azhim’, yang dimaknai oleh Ibnu Abbas, Mujahid, Adh Dhahak, dan Ibnu Zaid, di mana mereka mengartikannya dengan makna ‘agama mulia’, yakni Islam. Sedangkan ‘Athiyah memaknainya dengan ‘Adabul Qur’an, (etika al Quran)’ (Ibid, Juz. 23, Hal.529-530. Al Maktabah Asy Syamilah)
Sementara itu, Aisyah Radhiallahu ‘Anha memaknai ayat ‘sesungguhnya engkau benar-benar berbudi pekerti agung’adalah Al Quran. Sebagaimana riwayat berikut:
عنسعد بن هشام بن عامر ، في قول الله عز وجل ( وإنك لعلى خلق عظيم ) قال : سألت عائشة رضي الله عنها : يا أم المؤمنين ، أنبئيني عن خلق رسول اللهصلى الله عليه وسلم ، فقالت : « أتقرأ القرآن ؟ » فقلت : نعم ، فقالت : « إن خلق رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم القرآن »
Dari Sa’ad bin Hisyam bin ‘Amir, tentang firmanNya ‘Sesungguhnya engkau benar-benar berbudi pekerti agung’, dia berkata: ‘Aku bertanya kepada ‘Aisyah Radhiallahu ‘Anha: “Wahai Ummul Mu’minin, kabarkan kepada saya tentang akhlaq Rasulullah Shallallahu ‘Alaihi wa Sallam.” Beliau menjawab: “Apakah engkau membaca Al Quran?” Aku menjawab: “Tentu.” Dia berkata: “Sesungguhnya Akhlaq Rasulullah Shallallahu ‘Alaihi wa Sallam adalah Al Quran.” (HR. Al Hakim, katanya shahih sesuai syarat Bukhari-Muslim, Al Mustadrak ‘Alash Shahihain, Juz. 9, Hal. 39, No hadits. 3801. Al Maktabah Asy Syamilah).
III. KATA AKHLAQ DALAM AS SUNNAH
Selanjutnya adalah beberapa hadits yang memuat kata ‘akhlaq’ dan pengertiannya menurut para pensyarah.
Dari Abu Hurairah Radhiallahu ‘Anhu, Rasulullah Shallallahu ‘Alaihi wa Sallam ditanya tentang hal apa yang menyebabkan paling banyak manusia masuk ke surga, maka beliau menjawab: “Taqwa kepada Allah, dan akhlaq yang baik.” (HR. At Tirmidzi, Kitab Al Birr wasAsh Shilah ‘an Rasulillah bab Maa Ja’a fi Husnil Khuluq, Juz. 7, Hal. 286 No hadits. 1927. Katanya: shahih gharib. Syaikh Al Albany mengatakan hasan. Shahih wa Dhaif Sunan At Tirmidzi, Hal. 5, Juz. 4, no. 2004. Al Maktabah Asy Syamilah)
Berkata Syaikh Abdurrahman Al Mubarkafuritentang makna husnul khuluq:
“Yaitu akhlak terhadap makhluk, dia mendekatkan diri dan menjauhkan dari sikap menyakiti mereka, dan lebih tinggi kebaikannya kepada siapa-siapa yang telah berbuat buruk kepadanya dari mereka.” (Syaikh Abdurrahman Al Mubarkafuri, Tuhfah Al Ahwadzi, Juz. 5, Hal. 252. Al Maktabah Asy Syamilah)
Ath Thayyibi berkata: “Sabda beliau,’ Taqwa kepada Allah’ merupakan isyarat terhadap baiknya pergaulan dengan Sang Pencipta, yakni dengan cara menjalankan semua yang diperintahkanNya dan menjauhi dari dari apa-apa yang dilarangNya. “Akhlak yang baik’ merupakan isyarat terhadap baiknya pergaulan dengan sesama makhluk. Dua perangai ini akan mengantarkan kepada surga, sedangkan yang bertentangan dengan keduanya akan masuk ke neraka. Apa yang biasa dilakukan Mulut dan kemaluan, merupakan lawan dari kedua perangai itu. (Ibid)
Sementara Imam At tirmidzi meriwayatkan dari Imam Abdullah bin Mubarak tentang makna Husnul Khuluq (akhlaq yang baik):
Dari Abdullah bin Mubarak, bahwa dia menyifati akhlak yang baik adalah wajah yang ceria, suka memberikan hal-hal yang baik, dan menahan tangannya dari menyakiti manusia. (Sunan At Tirmidzi, juz. 7, Hal. 287, no. 1928. Al Maktabah Asy syamilah)
Dari Abu Darda, dia berkata: Aku mendengar Nabi Shallallahu ‘Alaihi wa Sallam bersabda: “Tidak ada sesuatu pun yang diletakkan di atas timbangan lebih berat dibandingkan akhlak yang baik.” (HR. At Tirmidzi, Kitab Al Bir wash Shilah ‘an Rasulillah Maa Ja’a fi Husnil Khuluq, Juz. 7, Hal. 285, no hadits. 1926. Abu Daud, Kitab Al Adab Bab Fi Husnil Khuluq, Juz.12, Hal. 421, No hadits. 4166. Juga diriwayatkan oleh Al Bazzar dengan sanad jayyid,lihat Tuhfah al Ahwadzi, Juz. 5 Hal. 251, Al Mundziri berkata: juga diriwayatkan At Tirmidzi katanya: hasan shahih. Lihat ‘Aunul Ma’bud, Juz. 10, Hal. 321. Al Maktabah Asy Syamilah)
Imam Abu Thayyib Rahimahullah berkata tentang maksud hadits di atas:
“Yaitu pahala akhlak yang baik, catatannya dan nilai akhlak baik itu sendiri.” (Imam Abu Thayyid Muhammad Syamsuddin Abadi, ‘Aunul Ma’bud, Juz. 10 Hal. 321, No. 4166. Al Maktabah Asy Syamilah)
Dari An Nawas bin Sam’an al Anshari, dia berkata: Aku bertanya kepada Rasulullah Shallallahu ‘Alaihi wa Sallam tentang Al Birr (kebaikan) dan Dosa, beliau bersabda: Al Birr adalah akhlak yang baik dan dosa adalah apa-apa yang membuat dadamu tidak nyaman, dan engkau membencinya jika manusia melihatnya.” (HR. Muslim, Kitab Al Birr wash Shilah wal Adab Bab Tafsir Al Birr wal Itsm, Juz. 12, Hal. 403, no hadits. 4632. Al Maktabah Asy Syamilah)
Imam An Nawawi Rahimahullah mengomentari hadits ini:
“Berkata para ulama: Al Birr dimaknai dengan Ash Shilah (hubungan), dan bermakna kelembutan, kebaikan, persahabatan yang baik, dan pergaulan yang baik, dan juga bermakna ketaatan. IV. MACAM-MACAM AKHLAK
Akhlak kepada Allah Ta’ala
-MenjadikanNya satu-satunya ma’bud (sembahan) yang haq dan murni. (QS. 1: 5)(QS. 98:5)
-Taat kepadaNya secara mutlak. (QS. 4:65)
-Tidak menyekutukanNya dengan apa pun. (QS. 4: 116)
-MenjadikanNya sebagai tempat minta pertolongan. (QS. 1:5)
-Memberikan hak rububiyah, uluhiyah, asmaul husna dan sifatul ’ulya, hanya kepadaNya. (QS. 1;2), (QS. 114: 3)
-Tidak menyerupakanNya dengan apa pun (QS. 42: 11)
-Menetapkan apa-apa yang ditetapkanNya, mengingkari apa-apa yang diingkariNya, mengharamkan apa-apa yang diharamkanNya, dan menghalalkan apa-apa yang dihalalkanNya. (QS. 5: 48-49)
-MenjadikanNya sebagai satu-satunya pembuat syariat. (QS. 6: 57)
-Berserah diri kepadaNya (QS. 20:72)
2. Akhlak kepada Rasulullah Shallallahu ‘Alaihi wa Sallam
-Mengakui dan mengimani bahwa Beliau adalah hamba Allah dan RasulNya. (QS. 18:110)
-Meyakini bahwa Beliau adalah Rasul dan NabiNya yang terakhir, dan risalahnya pun juga risalah terakhir. (QS. 30:40)
-Taat kepadanya secara mutlak. (QS. 4:65)
-Menjadikannya sebagai teladan yang baik dalam kehidupan, beragama, keluarga, sosial, dan lain-lain. (QS. 30:21)
-Meyakini bahwa syafa’at darinya hanya terjadi dengan idzin Allah ta’ala. (QS. 10:3), (QS. 20:109)
-Bershalawat padanya. (QS. 30:56)
-Menerima keputusannya secara lapang. (QS. 4: 59)
-Mencintai keluarganya (ahli baitnya). (HR. At tirmidzi, Juz.12, Hal. 260, No. 3722. Al Maktabah asy Syamilah)
-Mencintai para sahabatnya dan mengakui bahwa mereka adalah umat terbaik dan semuanya adil. (QS. 3: 110)
-Mencintai yang dicintainya dan membenci yang dibencinya.
3. Akhlak kepada manusia
-Berbakti kepada kedua orang tua (QS. 6:151) (QS.46:17)
-Menyambung silaturrahim (QS. 4:1) (QS. 2:27)
-Tolong menolong dalam kebaikan, bukan dalam kejahatan. (QS. 5:2)
-Tawadhu’ (QS.7:199)
-Tidak mencela. (HR. Bukhari)
-Lemah lembut dan berkasih sayang kepada sesama muslim dan tegas terhadap orang kafir. (QS. 5:54) (QS. 48: 29)
